CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois men's tennis will be splitting up to compete in two different tournaments from Nov. 4-6. Hunter Heck, Kenta Miyoshi, Oliver Okonkwo and Alex Petrov will head to the Gator Invite, hosted by Florida, while Tyler Bowers, Nic Meister, Mathis Debru, Lucas Horve, Gabrielius Guzauskas, William Mroz will head to the Big Ten Singles hosted by Michigan.
Both Bowers and Meister are coming off a seven-win tournament in the Fighting Irish Invitational, where Meister went 3-4 in singles play.
This will be the first outing for Heck, Miyoshi, Okonkwo, Debru, Petrov and Horve since the ITA Midwest Regional Championships from Oct.17-24 at Atkins Tennis Center.
Heck battled through to the semifinals in singles while Petrov made it to the quarterfinals.
Meister, Miyoshi, and Debru all cruised to the round of 32 in the main draw, while Bowers made it to the round of 16 in the qualifiers.
Both Horve and Okonkwo battled hard in their matches, but didn't make it past the round of 64 in the main draw.
In doubles play, Heck/Horve and Debru/Okonkwo both made it to the quarterfinals, with Bowers/Meister making it to the round of 32. Meister/Bowers had a hard fight, but didn't get into the next round.
