CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Fighting Illini continue their fall campaign with the Fighting Irish Hidden Duals this weekend, with four Illinois student-athletes set to take part in the three-day event from Sept. 25-27 in South Bend, Ind.
David Bakonyi, Jon Gamble, Nicholas Mekhael, and Colson Wells will all compete in singles and doubles play over the weekend.
All four players return to action after playing in the Harvard Chowderfest from Sept. 18-20 in Cambridge, Mass. Bakonyi and Mekhael led the way with four total victories apiece, with Mekhael posting a team-high two triumphs on the singles courts. Bakonyi and Gamble each tallied a singles win.
The Orange and Blue found success on the doubles courts, with Bakonyi/Wells going 3-0 and the freshman duo of Gamble/Mekhael collecting a 2-1 mark.
