THOMPSONVILLE, Mich. – In just her second professional event, Illinois women's golf graduate Tristyn Nowlin earned a two-shot victory at the Michigan PGA Women's Open on Wednesday (June 30). Nowlin finished with a three-round total of -10 (68-69-69) at the Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville, Michigan.
"It was an extremely fun week," said Nowlin. "I had wonderful playing competitors which made it even more special. I'm proud of how I managed myself and my game coming down the stretch. Smart golf and focusing on my process and what I could control got the job done. I'm looking forward to the Illinois Open next week!"
The Richmond, Kentucky native shot an -4 (68) to sit as co-leader after Monday's opening round, before a -3 (69) score on Tuesday and entered the final day three shots back of second-round leader Kelly Sim. Nowlin then converted four birdies in the final round, including one on the 18th hole to seal her victory, while carding 13 pars for the come-from-behind victory. Sim shot a +2 (74) to finish two shots back at -8 (68-66-74) to tie Ashley Lau (70-67-71) in second place.
Next up for Nowlin is the Illinois Women's Open at Mistwood Golf Course in Romeoville, Illinois on July 6-7.
