URBANA, Ill. – Illinois dropped the first two games of the series in the first doubleheader of the weekend with the Buckeyes on Friday afternoon. Delaney Rummell hit her fourth home run of the season in game two, while Sydney Sickels and Addy Jarvis both started in the circle for the Illini.
GAME ONE (Ohio State 12, Illinois 0)
Game one was scoreless until the fourth inning, when Ohio State plated 11 runs. The Buckeyes recorded seven hits in the inning, including a two-run home run to begin the 11-run inning.
Sydney Sickels got the start for the Illini and is now 13-5 on the season following the game one loss. Sickels threw 3.1 innings, giving up six earned and striking out one. Tori McQueen and Kelsie Packard both made appearances for the Illini to finish out the game.
GAME TWO (Ohio State 5, Illinois 1)
The Buckeyes opened up the scoring again in game two, putting up four runs in the top of the second inning to take an early 4-0 lead, followed by one more run in the top of the fourth. The Illini responded with a solo shot from Delaney Rummell in the bottom of the fourth inning, her fourth home run of the season and team-high 29th RBI.Â
Ohio State held on to take game two of the series as the Illini fall to 22-16 on the season.
