CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The Illinois baseball team will go to Bloomington, Indiana, for their lone midweek game of the season on Tuesday. The game was originally scheduled for April 11 but was postponed due to rain.
Illinois (18-19) is coming off a series win at Iowa after taking two of three from the Hawkeyes. After dropping a close game one on Friday, the Illini responded with a decisive 14-1 win on Saturday and a 6-2 victory in the rubber match on Sunday.
LHP Nathan Lavender (13 SO) and RHP Riley Gowens (9 SO) each set career highs for strikeouts over the weekend. The pitching staff struck out a total of 37 Iowa hitters over the three games.
Justin Janas had a career day on Sunday, finishing 5-for-5. He was the first Illinois batter with five hits in a game since Jason Goldstein on May 10, 2015 vs. Rutgers. Janas leads the Big Ten in batting average (.385) and on-base percentage (.500).
The Illini will have true freshman RHP Clayton Johnson make his first career start on Tuesday. Johnson has made four appearances out of the bullpen this season.
No public admission will be allowed at Tuesday's game.
The contest will be broadcast on BTN+ and Scott Beatty will have the radio call on the Fighting Illini Sports Network.
