The Illini and Michigan (19-9) already met in Ann Arbor back in March. The teams split a two-game set. In the first game, the score was tied 3-3 heading into the eighth inning before the Illini unloaded four runs to claim the lead and go onto a 7-4 win. The second game was controlled by Michigan early after they put up four runs in the first inning on their way to an 8-1 win.
