Illini Set for Weekend of B1G Play

URBANA, Ill. – The Illinois women's tennis team will travel to Michigan this weekend to face-off against conference foes Michigan and Michigan State. The Illini will take on the Wolverines at 11:00 a.m. CT on Saturday, March 6 and against the Spartans on Sunday, March 7 at 10:00 a.m. CT. Live stats and live video will be available each day provided by the host schools.
LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend the Illini hosted a pair of home conference matches versus Wisconsin and Minnesota, splitting the two. On Friday Illinois lost to Wisconsin 4-3 in a close match decided by the last few singles matches. Senior Asuka Kawai and freshman Kate Duong led the squad with individual wins.
On Sunday the Illini took down the Badgers of Wisconsin by a score of 4-3. Sophomore Josie Frazier finished the match with a clutch win on court six to give the Orange and Blue the edge.
SCOUTING MICHIGAN
The Wolverines are 6-1 on the year and coming off wins over Penn State and No. 8 Ohio State last weekend. They are undefeated (6-0) in conference play thus far with their only loss coming to No. 6 Duke.
In Illinois' last ten matchups against Michigan, they are 0-10. Most recently the Illini fell to the Wolverines 4-1 on February 9, 2020 in Chicago, Ill.
SCOUTING MICHIGAN STATE
The Spartans come into this weekend with a 3-4 record (B1G 3-3). Last weekend they fell in back-to-back road matches at Ohio State and Penn State
In the last ten matchups between these squads, Illinois holds an 8-2 advantage. Their last meeting came on April 6, 2019 and resulted in a 6-0 Illinois win.
