Illini Grab Road Victory at Indiana

Recap

BLOOMINGTON, IN. – The Fighting Illini soccer team surged over the Indiana Hoosiers 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The Illini move to 3-2-1 on the season.

Eileen Murphy scored the game-winning goal at the 49-minute mark in the second half to put the Illini over the Hoosiers. Sami Sample recorded eight saves on the afternoon and was again the rock of the Illini defense which played tremendously against Indiana.

The Illini had some early offensive opportunities in the first-half but were not able to convert. The defense put consistent pressure on the Hoosier offense in the first period, and held the Hoosiers to only one corner kick in the first-half.

After early shots put on goal by the Hoosiers, the Illini were set up on the left side of the field for a free kick. Aleah Treiterer sent a ball towards the center of the goal, which was headed in to the goal by Eileen Murphy for her first goal of the season. The Illini turned up the heat on defense, clearing nine second-half corner kicks by the Hoosiers and Sample recording seven saves in the second period to come away with the league win.
