URBANA, Ill. - The Illinois Fighting Illini Women's Tennis team will host their first home action of the 2021 season this weekend with the Illinois Invite. Joining the Fighting Illini will be the Hoosiers of Indiana and the Boilermakers of Purdue. Matches will run from Friday, February 5 through Sunday, February 7 and will all be played at the Atkins Tennis Center.
The Illinois Invite will follow the hidden dual format, and no team scores will be recorded. Only singles and doubles match results will be recorded and count for individual's overall records. Live scoring and live streams for each of the courts will be available the entire weekend. Updates will be provided on Twitter (@IlliniWTennis) and a full recap will be posted on FIGHTINGILLINI.com following the conclusion of the event.
Illinois is set to square off against Indiana starting at 12:00 p.m. on Friday and against Purdue at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. The Hoosiers and Boilermakers will play against each other on Saturday starting at 11:00 am.
Looking at the Illini
Illinois fared well in the Purdue Invite last weekend, led by sophomores Josie Frazier, Emily Casati and Ashley Yeah who each posted a 3-0 record in their singles matches. Senior Asuka Kawai enters this weekend as the No. 107 ranked single's player in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
Scouting the Competition
Purdue hosted the Purdue Invite alongside the Illini last weekend. When the two squads faced off, the Illini won four of six singles matches and the Boilermakers took two of three doubles matches.
This will be Indiana's first action of the season.
This will be Illinois' last matches before kicking off their Big Ten schedule next Friday on the road at Iowa. Their complete schedule was released Monday night by the conference office.
