Champaign, Ill. – The Fighting Illini women's gymnastics team heads to Maryland for the Big Five meet on Friday. The meet will be live on BTN+ at 4 pm CT.
Illinois is facing four Big Ten teams. They are going against Ohio State, Maryland and Nebraska each for the second time this season. It is the first time they will see Minnesota as the Gophers will travel to Champaign in March.

Fighting Illini women's gymnastics put up another season-high against No. 8 Michigan.Â
Illinois scored season-bests on three events. 48.975 on vault, 49.225 on bars and 49.300 on floor. Junior Mallory Mizuki led the way for Illini in her first competition. Mizuki scored a 9.900 and won the bar title in her first meet after battling back following injuries.
Mia Townes matched two career highs during the meet. She matched her career high with a 9.850 on vault and a 9.875 on floor.
In The Rankings
Illinois is ranked No. 19 after six weeks of competition. They started the season at No. 22 in the WCGA Preseason Coaches' poll. The Illini were the fourth-highest ranked Big Ten team and one of nine Big Ten teams ranked in the top-36 programs.
Illinois is ranked in the top 15 nationally in two events. They are 13th on beam and 12th on floor. On vault they are ranked No. 24 on bars and No. 35 on vault.
Mia Takekawa ranks 19th in the country on beam with an average score of 9.871, she scored a season best 9.925 against Michigan. Junior Shaylah Scott is T-28th in the nation on floor, she averages 9.833 on the event this season.
