Champaign, Ill. – Fighting Illini men's tennis picked up their second Big Ten win Friday night. The defeated Penn State 5-2.
"We're excited to start off Big Ten season 1-0," said head coach Brad Dancer. "We are still raw , we aren't quite comfortable yet and have some things to figure out. We'll scout some of Ohio State at Northwestern and use tomorrow to get better."
Illinois picked up the double point after wins from Brown/Heck and Bancila/Clark. Alex Brown and Hunter Heck defeated Alp Sentay and Bora Sengul 6-3. Alex Bancila and Zeke Clark defeated Christian Lakoseljac and Ondrej Ctverak 6-3.
In singles play, Zeke Clark defeated Charl Morgan 6-0, 6-1 on court three. Freshman Hunter Heck followed, defeating Tim Ruetzel 6-3, 6-1. Alex Bancila secured Illinois' victory defeating Sam Bossem 6-2, 6-2.
Siphos Montsi defeated Bora Sengal 7-5, 6-2 to make it 5-0 Illini.
Penn State won the last two singles matches of the night. Christian Lakoseljac defeated Alex Brown 7-6 (14-12), 6-3. Miko Francis Eala defeated Kweisi Kenyatte 7-5, 4-6, 11-9.
