Illini Finish Eighth, Wang Places Third at The Landfall Tradition

Recap

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Illinois women's golf team wrapped up its fall season at The Landfall Tradition on Sunday (Oct. 31), finishing in eighth place with a tournament total of 879 (+15) after posting its second-straight score of two-over par 290 in the final round at the par-72, 6,150-yard Pete Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall.

"It was an up and down day for us," said head coach Renee Slone. "I am proud of how Crystal [Wang] and Stang [Kornkamol Sukaree] bounced back with multiple birdies after a tough stretch. Strong rounds for Crystal and Siyan [Chen] as we were able to climb the leaderboard a few spots. Terrific tournament for Crystal to close out the fall season. Looking forward to a productive offseason in preparation for spring."

Senior Crystal Wang earned her highest finish of the season as she placed third with a season-low tournament total of four-under 212 after carding a final round 70 (-2), highlighted by back-to-back birdies on the final two holes. Wang led all players with 17 birdies in the tournament.

Senior Kornkamol Sukaree posted a four-over 76 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 30th with a four-over total of 220, with junior Siyan Chen turning her best round of the tournament with a two-under 70 and tied for 38th with a 54-hole total of 222 (+6).

Sophomore Isabel Sy also carded her best round of the event with a two-over 74 in the final round to finish in a tie for 52nd with a 225 (+9) tournament total. Rounding out the Illini was freshman Lexanne Halama with a five-over 77 to finish in a tie for 88th with a 238 (+22) total.

South Carolina claimed its second consecutive Landfall Tradition title with a 54-hole total of 849 (-15), with Michigan (861), Michigan State (865), Wake Forest (871) and Virginia (872) rounding out the top five. SC's Justine Fournand earned individual medalist honors after a eight-under par score of 208.

The Illini will break for the fall, before returning to action on Feb. 13-14 for the Columbia Classic at the Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Fla.
