VENICE, Fla. – Former Illini Tristyn Nowlin placed in the top 45 of Stage II of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament Sunday to advance on to the LPGA Q-Series as she continues her pursuit of an LPGA Tour card for the 2022 season.

"This week was such a great learning experience, and a true test of patience and diligence," said Nowlin. "Golf is imperfect and a game of inches, which showed true on Thursday. I had some great conversations with [Illinois head] Coach Renee Slone and [assistant coach] Pina Gentile after the first round, and went out the next few days with the same mindset as always. I played smart, and took it one shot at a time."

"Looking back, I'm grateful that I did not have my best day on Thursday, because I know now that I have the ability to overcome adversity and challenges in pressure situations. I set the results aside, and stayed committed to my process and things that I could control. I am beyond excited to be headed to Q Series and continue striving for my dreams!"

Nowlin finished in a tie for 37th with rounds of 79-69-67-70 for a three-under par score of 285. After opening the 72-hole tournament at the Plantation Country Club with a seven-over 79, she bounced back with three-straight sub-par rounds, highlighted by a five-under 67 in Saturday's third round.   

"Tristyn showed a lot of grit and determination this week," said head coach Renee Slone. "I am so very excited and proud of how she remained focused on the things she could control throughout the entire week. After a tough opening round, she continued to follow her process and did not allow it to shake her confidence in any way. She will be able to build upon this experience to aid in her preparation for the two weeks of Q-Series. Excited for this next step in her journey!"

The LPGA Q-Series will take place Nov. 29 to Dec. 12 on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama.
