MEDINAH, Ill. – The Illinois women's golf team is in fourth place after the first day of the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah, held at the par-72, 6,159-yard Medinah Country Club. Illinois had 8-11 holes remaining of the 36-hole day when tournament play was suspended due to rain and golf course conditions on Monday (Oct. 11).
The Illini were tied for third with a four-under 284 following the first round and currently sit at eight-under par midway through the second round.
Junior Siyan Chen is tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard at four-under overall through seven holes of round two after carding a career-low round four-under 68 in the opening round. Senior Crystal Wang also turned in a four-under 68 in the first round and is tied for eighth at -3 through nine holes of the second round.
Freshman Lexanne Halama is tied for 28th after posting a four-over 74 and is sitting at even par through 11 holes of the second round. Sophomore Isabel Sy was two-over on the day after a five-over 77 in the opening round and has drained three birdies through 10 holes in the second round. Senior Kornkamol Sukaree is tied for 58th at three-over after posting a four-over 74 in the first round and is also through 10 holes in the second.
Georgia leads the team leaderboard at 14-under, with LSU's Carla Tejedo Mulet leading individually at seven-under par.
Play will resume Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. CT, first finishing the second round, with continuous play into the third and final round.
