CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois women's golf team returns to action as the Illini host the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 11-12). After a break during the 2020-21 season due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Illini return to host the 54-hole tournament for the third season at the Medinah Country Club.
THE SETTING
The Illini Women's Invitational will be held at Medinah Country Club, with the No. 2 course set up for a par 72 and will play 6,159 yards long. Medinah Country Club is one of the most prominent private country clubs in the country located just 25 miles west of the city, in the Chicago suburbs. Founded in the 1920s by a group of Shriners, Medinah Country Club boasts three world class golf courses, all originally designed by famed golf course architect Tom Bendelow. The massive 120,000-square foot clubhouse designed by Richard Schmid provides a place for families and individuals who wish to participate in a variety of community activities from health and wellness to dining and engaging social activities.
Reopened in June 2017, the classic 1925 No. 2 course was restored to its original look and strategy. Suited for every golfer, the seven tees correspond to seven skill groups designated by color and is based on a number of criteria including handicaps, age, gender, and level of interest. This new playing opportunity is known as the "Golf For Life" program.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
There will be 15 teams competing in the 54-hole tournament with 36 holes of continuous play on Monday (October 11), followed by the final 18 on Tuesday (October 12). Monday will feature an 8:30 a.m. CT shotgun start, with a 9 a.m. CT start on Tuesday. Official tee times are available on Golfstat.
THE FIELD
Along with the Illini, the 15-team field includes Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Kent State, LSU, Louisville, Maryland, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Purdue, San Diego State, San Jose State, Texas Tech and Wisconsin.
