ABOUT MICHIGAN: No. 15/14 Michigan enters Sunday's game with an 8-0 overall record, including 3-0 start to Big Ten play. Most recently, the Wolverines escaped with a 64-62 home win over Nebraska. Junior F Naz Hillmon, the Big Ten's Preseason Co-Player of the Year as voted by the league's coaches, paces the Wolverines' attack at 25.9 points per game and 11.4 rebounds per contest. Hillmon is one of four U-M players averaging double-figures scoring alongside junior G/F Leigha Brown (19.7 ppg), graduate G Akienreh Johnson (10.3), and senior F Hailey Brown (10.0). The Wolverines average 84.9 points per game, while holding opponents to 61.3 per contest. Michigan is one of 15 remaining unbeatens and ranks among the NCAA leaders in several categories including No. 6 in field goal percentage (.507), No. 8 in rebounding margin (+15.4), No. 14 in assists per game (18.4), No. 15 in scoring margin (+23.6) and No. 16 in scoring offense (84.9 ppg). The Wolverines' first matchup with the Illini (Dec. 19) was postponed due to COVID-19-related concerns within the U-M program.
SERIES VS. MICHIGAN: Sunday's matchup is the 76th in the series between the Illini and the Wolverines. Illinois leads the all-time series, 40-35, but trail by a slim 18-17 margin in games played in Ann Arbor. The Illini are looking to snap a five-game U-M win streak. The last Illini win the series was Feb. 28, 2015, a 72-60 victory at State Farm Center. Illinois' last road win in the series came Feb. 4, 2008 (66-61).
