FINAL RESULTS
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Fighting Illini men's gymnastics team defeated the Northern Illinois Huskies 384.750-310.100 in the first ever virtual competition in NCAA history.
The Illini claimed all six event titles, and freshmen Will Hauke and Logan Myers made their Illini debut in the victory. Sophomores Evan Manivong and Dylan Kolak each set new career-highs on the vault, and redshirt-senior Tommy Mistretta tied his career-high score on pommel horse.
Manivong took the event title for vault and recorded a career-best score of 14.550, surpassing his previous best of 14.350. Kolak also recorded a career-best score of 13.950, surpassing his previous best of 13.400.
Junior Michael Fletcher competed in his first meet after missing all of the 2019-20 campaign due to injury and recorded 11.800 on the floor, 11.650 on pommel horse, and 11.650 on vault.
The meet was the first ever virtual competition in NCAA history, streamed and judged remotely from each teams' respective gyms. The platform virti.us was used to stream and record live stats for the meet.
How It Happened
First Rotation – Floor Exercise (63.250)
Second Rotation – Pommel Horse (60.550)
- Tommy Mistretta topped the podium on the pommel horse with a score of 13.700 for his first career event title. He also tied his career-best score on the pommel horse with the event title. Junior Ian Skirkey placed second (12.750) while junior Hamish Carter placed third (12.400).
Third Rotation – Still Rings (63.900)
- Danny Graham took home gold on rings with a score of 13.700. Junior Jordan Kovach took silver (13.250) while Myers took bronze (12.950).
Fourth Rotation – Vault (69.400)
- Vault was the Illini's highest scoring routine of the day, where sophomore Evan Manivong set a new career-high score of 14.550 while taking the top spot. Freshman Logan Myers came in second (14.200) in his Illini debut, while McCool placed third (14.000).
Fifth Rotation – Parallel Bars (64.400)
- Freshman Logan Myers earned his first career event title on parallel bars with a score of 13.500. Kovach placed second in the event (13.300) while Kolak placed third (12.950).
Sixth Rotation – High Bar (63.250)
- Freshman Will Hauke and junior Jordan Kovach tied for first on the high bar, scoring 13.000 each. Manivong came in second in the event (12.950) while Myers placed third (12.350).
