NORMAN, Okla. – A pair of Illinois men's golfers were honored by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Thursday (April 16) when Michael Feagles and Jerry Ji were selected to the 2020 Division I PING All-Midwest Region team.
The honor is the fourth all-region selection for Feagles, a senior from Scottsdale, Ariz., who will return to the Illinois program in 2020-21, and the first for Ji, a freshman from Hoofddorp, Netherlands.
Feagles and Ji ranked first and second on the team, respectively, with stroke averages of 71.56 and 72.00 over 18 rounds in 2019-20.
Feagles led the Illini with 12 rounds of par or better during the season, and posted his best individual finish of the year with an eighth-place showing at the Sports Authority Intercollegiate. Feagles ranked as the Illini's top finisher twice in 2019-20, pacing the team at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational and the Crooked Stick Invitational.
Ji opened his rookie campaign in impressive fashion at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate, where he finished tied for 15th. He tied a program-record with a 63 in his opening round, and finished with a total of 204, the top 54-hole score for the team this year. Ji also paced the Illini at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational.
This marks the 12th consecutive season that the Illini have placed at least two golfers on the all-region list.
