Illinois women's golf head coach Renee Slone and senior Tristyn Nowlin joined a media teleconference on March 19 to discuss challenges facing the team surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. Among the topics discussed, Slone and Nowlin spoke about the challenges presented by recent events and finding ways to remain optimistic during these times.
Excerpts from Slone and Nowlin, and full audio of today's conference call are available below:
"It really does put things in perspective. Yes, we're playing to win and to be successful, but it has provided a chance for people to step back and really put things in perspective and remember what truly is important in life."
"I think right now, it's really important that I do stay in contact with the team and try to build those relationships even more, even though we're not in contact, just so it doesn't feel like such an abrupt ending. And once again, with all the information, basically we're receiving something new each and every day, whether it's from the NCAA or from campus or even from the national level, I think it's just important that I kind of keep my options open and don't go down the rabbit hole of saying 'Oh, everything's over. This is all over. I have no chance to get that closure.' Because I think everybody - myself and everyone on the team - has faith that this will all work out for the better."
