CHICAGO, Ill. – The Illinois women's tennis team competes against UCLA on Friday, Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. CT, as it hosts the 2020 National Indoor Championships at the XS Tennis Village in Chicago, Ill. The tournament will last through Monday, Feb. 10.
Along with host Illinois, and UCLA, the four-day tournament will see action from Arizona State, Duke, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Michigan, NC State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Pepperdine, Princeton, Stanford, Texas and Virginia.
LAST TIME OUT
The Illini enter the weekend with a 3-1 record after last week's doubleheader action. Last Sunday, the Orange and Blue split their results, falling to No. 5 Duke, 2-4, and defeating Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, 4-0.
Illinois swept the doubles competition, as juniors Sasha Belaya and Mia Rabinowitz secured the doubles point against Duke with a 1o games to eight tie breaker finish, to make it 7-6. Junior Emilee Duong and freshman Josie Frazier notched the point after battling past their SIUE opponents, 6-1.
In singles action, junior Asuka Kawai was the lone Illini to grab a point after winning 6-2, 6-2 over Duke's Mansouri. Against SIUE, freshman Ashley Yeah finished off the match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over her opponent, after freshman Emily Casati and Duong earned the first and second singles point, respectively.
SCOUTING UCLA
The Bruins are 4-0 heading into the ITA National Indoor Championships. UCLA powered past Minnesota, 4-0, on Jan. 24 and Loyola Marymount, 4-0, on Jan. 25, as the Bruins hosted ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The Bruins went on to sweep Saint Mary's (7-0) on Feb. 1 and UC Santa Barbara (7-0) on Feb. 2.
Illinois is 0-1 against the Bruins. UCLA defeated the Illini, 7-2, in the only meeting between the two teams on March 17, 2000.
