Allegretti Becomes 32nd Illini Super Bowl Champion

Illini Super Bowl History | Illini in the NFL

Kansas City Chief and former Fighting Illini offensive lineman Nick Allegretti finished off his rookie NFL season as a Super Bowl Champion, helping the Chiefs to a 31-20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV Sunday in Miami.

It marked the 32nd time an Illinois alumnus ended a season on the field as a Super Bowl Champion. A total of 25 former Illini players, including Allegretti, have Super Bowl tiles.

A seventh-round pick by the Chiefs in the 2019 NFL Draft, Allegretti saw action on field goal and PAT protection as Kansas City won its second Super Bowl title. The NFL rookie played in 10 games for the Chiefs, seven during the regular season as well as all three playoff games, mostly blocking on field goals and PATs.

At Illinois, Allegretti was a team captain and three-year starter on the offensive line, twice earning All-Big Ten honors and earning the 2019 Big Ten Medal of Honor.
