CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — With the Fighting Illini football season only 10 days away, here are 10 game day enhancements fans can expect around Gies Memorial Stadium during the 2026 season:
• New Traffic Routes: New for the 2026 season, Illinois Athletics and the University of Illinois Police Department are implementing a lot-specific traffic-routing system on game days to reduce congestion, improve traffic flow, and ensure quicker, more efficient access to parking areas. All fans will be required to follow designated traffic routes assigned to specific lots, beginning approximately 3 1/2 hours before kickoff. Fans who do not follow the appropriate route will be redirected to the correct traffic route to access parking lots. Rideshare services will access the State Farm Circle Drives for pickup/drop from either First Street or Fourth Street.

• All New Videoboards: Illinois' well-documented largest videoboard in college football will be unveiled during the home opener on Sept. 3, but the upgrades go much further than the 17,000+ square foot videoboard on the south side of Gies Memorial Stadium. Illinois also added a new north end zone display above the student section, two sideline ribbon displays on the east and west side, two field-level displays on the east side, and 10 displays underneath the east balcony. On the backside of the main video display, two video displays face outside of the stadium to connect with fans as they arrive and experience the game-day atmosphere.
• New Audio System: Gies Memorial Stadium upgraded to a new stadium-wide audio system ahead of the 2026 season.
• New WiFi: Illinois' stadium-wide WiFi project is complete for all fans to enjoy. Fans will have upgraded wireless access in the Gies Memorial Stadium concourses, seating bowl, and the student section.
• New Lights: Illinois upgraded to LED lighting, allowing for new light show capabilities and improved lighting throughout the venue. The lights will be on display for the first time during the Thursday night matchup against UAB.
• Concessions Enhancements: Enhanced concessions offerings will bring new food and beverage options and greater variety. In addition to the new specialty Block I soft pretzel, new vendors include Dippin' Dots, Jersey Mike's, Chick-Fil-A, Crumbl Cookies, and more.

• In-Game Hosts: Get ready for more energy inside Gies Memorial Stadium for the 2026 season! Two new in-game hosts will bring the hype for every game, engaging with fans throughout the stadium, leading interactive moments, and creating unforgettable experiences from tailgating locations to the final whistle. Their energy and personality will add a new dimension to the game day experience.
• Upgraded Fighting Illini App: For game day and every day, the upgraded Fighting Illini mobile app features a new Game Center that brings the game day fan experiences right into your fingertips with updated resources, live score updates, featured stories and more. Fans attending games should download the Fighting Illini app to manage tickets and parking passes for a seamless entrance into Gies Memorial Stadium. • Promotional Schedule: For Illinois' Gies Memorial Stadium staples Homecoming, Hail to the Orange Out, Military Appreciation Day, and Dads Day are joined this season by the new Hail to the Blue Out and the 2001 Big Ten Championship team's 25th anniversary reunion.
