ROSEMONT, Ill. – Illinois junior Mia Rabinowitz was named Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week by the conference on Tuesday afternoon. The award marks the second for Rabinowitz's career, and the first for the Illini for the 2019-20 season.
Rabinowitz went 1-1 in singles competition and 1-0 in doubles in last weekend's matches at Texas A&M and Baylor. At Texas A&M, the junior fell, 7-5, 6-1, to 97th-ranked Tatiana Makarova at No. 2 singles.
Against Baylor, the Tenafly, N.J., native paired up with fellow junior Asuka Kawai in doubles play to win 6-2 over their Baylor opponent's Kris Sorokolet and Anastasia Kharitonova at No. 3 doubles. In singles action, Rabinowitz claimed the point at No. 2 after defeating 102nd-ranked Kharitonova of Baylor, 6-2, 6-2.
Rabinowitz picked up her second win over a ranked opponent this season after powering past Kharitonova.

The Fighting Illini hit the road again for a pair of matches next weekend. The Orange and Blue first make their way to Eugene, Ore., on Friday, Feb. 21, to take on Oregon at 4 p.m., before traveling north to Seattle, Wash., on Sunday, Feb. 23, to face Washington at 2 p.m. CT.
