NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Redshirt senior Jonathan Wells led the Illini on Day 1 at the Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt, winning event titles in both the High Jump and Long Jump. It's the second consecutive meet Wells has placed first in both events. Wells cleared a season-best 7-1 3/4 (2.18 meters) to take his third High Jump title of the season. He tied his season-best mark to win the Long Jump, jumping 25-1 3/4 (7.66 meters).
Redshirt junior Cooper Jazo placed second in the Pole Vault with a personal-best performance. Jazo cleared 17-0 3/4 (5.20) meters on his first attempt for the new PR in the event.
Junior Amira Aduma had a pair of top-10 performances on Friday. In the 200m Dash, Aduma clocked a personal-best finish time of 24.49 to finish eighth. In the women's Long Jump, Aduma jumped 19-2 1/2 (5.85 meters) to place fifth.
Sophomore Lucy Lux-Rulon placed second in today's women's High Jump. Lux-Rulon cleared 5-6 1/2 (1.69 meters), a new personal-best for her in the event.
Illinois saw two top-10 finishes in the men's 200m Dash. Sophomore Declan Rustay timed 21.72 to place fifth, and junior Jason Shannon recorded a time of 21.80 to finish eighth.
In the men's 5K, the last event of the day, redshirt freshman Colin Yandel timed 14:47.00 to place 10th. In the women's 5K, junior Katie Stapleton clocked a new PR timing 17:20.02.
Competition at the Music City Challenge will resume at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the women's unseeded 3K. Illini contesting the day's first event will be juniors Nicki Cast and Caroline Fix and sophomore Lauren Katz.
