BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Illinois track & field finished competition at the Indiana Relays on Saturday. In the women's 3K on Saturday, redshirt sophomore Rebecca Craddock led the way, finishing fifth and clocking a new personal-best finish time of 9:29.46. Craddock's finish ranks as the fifth-fastest indoor 3K time in Illinois program history.Â
"Overall, a lot of positives," said director of track & field/cross country Mike Turk. "We had several break through performances, and people are starting to understand their roles and we are progressing well. The next couple of weeks will be fun."
Illinois track & field saw multiple top-10 performances from its distance athletes at the two-day Indiana University Relays. Redshirt sophomore Irwin Loud took fourth place in the men's seeded Mile on Friday night, timing a new PR finish of 4:14.08.
In Friday night's women's 3K, the Illini saw a pair of top-10 finishes. Junior Nicki Cast finished in 10:04.59 to place fourth, while junior Caroline Fix timed 10:07.37 to finish sixth.Â
Also on Friday night, junior Katie Stapleton placed third in the women's 5K, crossing at 17:42.54.
On Saturday, freshman Olivia Howell took fourth place in the women's Mile, recording a finish time of 4:49.17.Â
The Illini also saw a fourth-place performance in the women's 800m from junior Mikaela Lucki. Lucki timed 2:13.90 in Saturday's 800m race.
In sprints, freshman Danni Stoughton ran to a 10th-place finish in the women's 400m Dash, recording a time of 57.39.  Â
Additionally, In the women's 60m Hurdles, sophomore Kionnah Weaver timed 8.83 in Friday's prelims to qualify for Saturday's event final, where she would finish eighth with a time of 8.96.
Illinois also saw multiple top-10 performances in both the men's and women's Pole Vault. In the men's Pole Vault, redshirt senior Jacob LaRocca cleared 5.07 meters to place fifth. Senior Cooper Jazo also cleared 5.07 meters and finished eighth.Â
In the women's Pole Vault, junior Kristin Slaughter cleared 3.80 meters to place sixth, and sophomore Josie Held recorded a mark of 3.65 meters to finish 10th. Â
Up next, the Illini head to Nebraska to compete once again at the annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational next weekend. The two-day meet will take place on Friday, February 7 and Saturday, February 8.Â
