Hello Illini Nation,
It has been a long time since my last Chip Shots! Time has passed by so fast, and it's almost the end of another fall semester. This semester is undoubtedly exceptional and different for everyone. For me, it was a memorable semester with new experiences. All my classes are online, and using Zoom for my classes was new to me. I decided to stay home in California this semester due to Covid; this allowed me to spend time with my family. Hiking has become a favorite activity for me and my family during the pandemic because we enjoy being outside in the fresh air.
Besides having classes online and spending time with my family, I have also focused on different aspects of my golf game. It has been great to have the opportunity to practice since the golf courses around me are open. While I have enjoyed spending time with my family, I have missed the team and everyone at the U of I. We have weekly meetings on Zoom with coaches and teammates, and it has been great to see and talk to everyone. The check-ins and meetings made me feel as though I was never away from campus and the team.
Most recently, I had the opportunity to participate in the 2021 U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball Qualifier. The tournament was hosted at El Niguel Country Club on November 16th. The golf course was beautiful and challenging. I played with my partner, Katherine Muzi, a junior at the University of Southern California. We played the tournament with trust and support. It was my first tournament since March, and I was glad to be able to compete again. We shot 65 and tied for medalist honors. It was an enjoyable and exciting experience. The tournament reminded me of my love for competition and boosted my commitment to work hard in preparation for the spring semester.
I can't wait to come back to campus to compete for the Illini family. Stay safe and see you next time!
Go Illini!
