URBANA, Ill. – The University of Illinois women's tennis team begins the fall portion of the 2019-20 season with a trip to the Wahoowa Invitational, hosted by the University of Virginia, in Charlottesville, Va., from Friday, Sept. 20 through Sunday, Sept. 22, that features both singles and doubles competition.
The Fighting Illini return seven members of its 2018-19 team, which made its second consecutive NCAA Championship appearance, including senior Madeleine Gandawidjaja, juniors Sasha Belaya, Emilee Duong, Asuka Kawai and Mia Rabinowitz, and sophomore Shivani Ingle. The Orange and Blue introduce three new members this season in freshmen Emily Casati, Josie Frazier and Ashley Yeah.
Other teams attending the Wahoowa Invitational include North Carolina State, University of Oklahoma, Princeton University and University of Kansas. The tournament schedule will consist of two doubles and one singles match on Friday, Sept. 20, two singles and one doubles match on Saturday, Sept. 21, and one singles match Sunday, Sept. 22.
Doubles matches will be played as an eight-game pro set and singles matches will be played best two-of-three sets with the third set being a 10-point tiebreak.
