Hello Illini Family!
After a long and wonderful summer break, we are excited to start our fall season for 2019-2020 with two new Illini on the team. We began the season with the Glass City Invitational in Ohio which was hosted by the University of Toledo. Additionally, we are grateful for the opportunity to play at Inverness Club, site of the 2019 US Junior Amateur and Solheim Cup in 2021.
After landing in Detroit, we drove straight to the hotel and had sushi with poke bowl for dinner. Everybody used the night to get some homework completed and rest to prepare for the practice round on Sunday. We had great weather during the practice round as we gathered more information about the course. Everyone spent more time around the greens during the practice round as Inverness is a traditional Donald Ross course.
Following the practice round, we enjoyed dinner at Mancy's Italian Grill. During our team meeting, everyone shared her strategy for each hole, and then finished more homework.
We were ready for the first round of the season! We started the day in our team huddle with positive words to support each other. We shot 286(-2) in the first round and were tied for the lead going into the second round.
Going into our last round of the Glass City Invitational, we committed to being focused on every shot, staying in the present, and fighting until the end. We played the par 3s well, but unfortunately left some shots on the par 4s and par 5s. Although, it was a tough round for us, we learned a lot from this challenging course, and we gained more knowledge that we will apply to our future tournaments. Congrats to our sophomores Stang Sukaree and Crystal Wang on their top ten finishes!
We are looking forward to the Schooner Fall Classic next week (Sept. 27, 2019- Sept. 29, 2019) in Norman, Oklahoma!
Go Illini!
