Champaign, Ill. - Head coach Renee Slone and the Illinois Women's Golf program have announced their 2019-20 schedule. The fall portion of the schedule features three new tournaments for the Fighting Illini, as well as a return to Medinah, Illinois, for the second Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah in October.
"Our fall schedule has a different look this year as we are playing in three new events for our program," Slone said. "Each season we want to provide the team with opportunities to challenge themselves in competitive fields on difficult golf courses presenting a variety of conditions. These tournaments will certainly test the players and enable us to continue to grow and develop."
The Orange and Blue open the fall season Sept. 16-17 at the Glass City Invitational hosted by the University of Toledo. The Illini will head to Oklahoma for the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar from September 27-29, hosted by an Oklahoma squad that finished 2018-19 ranked No. 18 in the final WGCA poll.
Illinois will host a field of 15 teams Oct. 7-8 in the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah, including Kent State, which finished the spring ranked No. 12 in the nation, Oklahoma, defending SEC champion Ole Miss, and Big Ten opponents Indiana, Maryland, Purdue, and Wisconsin. Seven of the 15 teams in the tournament reached the NCAA Championships in May, including San Jose State, Tennessee, Indiana, Kent State, Ole Miss, Purdue, and Illinois. Maryland and Oklahoma were also represented at the 2018-19 NCAA Championships.
"We are excited to return to Medinah Country Club to host the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah for the second year. We are so very grateful to the members and staff at Medinah for embracing this event and being such fantastic advocates for women's college golf. We deeply appreciate Ronald and Paula Filler's support of the tournament and our program."
The Illini wrap up the fall Oct. 25-27 at The Landfall Tradition, hosted by UNC Wilmington.Â
The spring schedule features a reprise of 2018-19 for the Illini, as they will return to the UCF Challenge, the Westbrook Invitational hosted by Wisconsin, the College of Charleston's Briar's Creek Invitational, the Clemson Invitational, and Ohio State's Lady Buckeye Classic. Illinois will also participate in Miami (FL)'s Hurricane Invitational in March.
The Big Ten Championships are scheduled for April 24-26 at TPC River's Bend in Maineville, Ohio, followed by NCAA Regionals from May 11-13 and the NCAA Championships in Scottsdale, Ariz., May 22-27.
