Ram adds Mixed Doubles Main Draw to Wimbledon Play

The Carmel, Ind. native opens tournament with 16th Wimbledon victory in men’s doubles.

LONDON – Along with men's doubles play, former Illini All-American Rajeev Ram is set to compete in the Wimbledon mixed doubles main draw starting on Friday at the prominent All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London. Ram teams up with fellow American and No. 55 ranked Alison Riske in the star-studded main draw headline by tennis greats, Andy Murray and Serena Williams.

Ram and Riske are set to play against rising stars Asia Muhammad (USA) and Luke Bambridge (GBR) in the opening round. The winner will face No. 11 seed Edouard Roger-Vasselin (FRA) and Andreja Klepac (SLO), who received a bye into the second round.

Coming off of his first Grand Slam win at the 2019 Australian Open, Ram opened Wimbledon doubles play with British Joe Salisbury, earning a straight-sets victory against Malek Jaziri (TUN) and Radu Albot (MDA), 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. In his 12th Wimbledon showing, Ram garnered his 16th win at the prestigious tournament. During the second round, they will face pair Matthew Ebden (AUS) / Vasek Pospisil (CAN) on Friday at 5 a.m. CDT / 11 a.m. BST.

Ram is ranked No. 25 in doubles play after appearing in three ATP finals this year, including a win at the Dubai Tennis Championships with Salisbury. After 75 Grand Slam appearances, the Olympic silver medalist clinched his first Grand Slam title during mixed doubles play with partner Barbora Krejcíková (Czech Republic) at the 2019 Australian Open. The Carmel, Ind. residence's best career-ranking came in 2017 when his 35-22 doubles match record and four ATP Tour titles propelled him to No. 11 in the ATP Doubles Rankings.
