LINCOLN, Neb. – No. 9 Illinois secured its first Big Ten road win of the season with a 4-1 comeback victory at Nebraska on Friday night.
After the Cornhuskers claimed the doubles point, the Illini bounced back by taking four singles matches to extend their winning streak to nine.
The Orange and Blue took the first set on all six singles courts, and it was Kenta Miyoshi who got the first Illini win of the day. His 6-2, 6-1 decision over Leo Linquet on Court 1 tied the dual at 1-1.
Sasha Colleu was not far behind with his 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Joan Torres Espinosa on Court 5, which gave Illinois its first lead of the night. William Mroz then extended that advantage with his 7-5, 6-3 showing on Court 3, defeating Jeri Lassila to put the visitors within a point of the win.Â
Adam Jilly ultimately clinched the Illinois victory with his gritty 7-5, 7-5 decision over Niels Van Der Sijs on Court 4.
