Big-time Transfers Ready for Training Camp

Illini open practice Aug. 2 at the Campus Rec Fields

Four blue-chip graduate transfers will be taking the field in Illini orange and blue when Training Camp opens on Friday morning. DE Oluwole Betiku Jr., WR Josh Imatorbhebhe, QB Brandon Peters and WR Trevon Sidney all arrived at different points during the summer and are ready to go this fall. All four are graduate transfers immediately eligible in 2019 and with two years of eligibility remaining.

Betiku, Imatorbhebhe and Sidney come to Illinois from the University of Sourthern California, while Peters joins the Fighting Illini after three seasons at the University of Michigan.

All four players were ranked in among the top-160 recruits in the nation coming out of high school by 247Sports. Betiku was ranked No. 15, Peters No. 61, Sidney No. 143 and Imatorbhebhe No. 158, all in the class of 2016.

The four summer transfers join a pair of high-profile transfers that joined the team in spring 2019 – Alabama OL graduate transfer Richie Petitbon and Georgia TE transfer Luke Ford. Petitbon has one year of eligibility remaining starting in 2019, while Ford, who has three years of eligibility left, must sit out 2019 due to NCAA transfer rules. Ford (No. 51 in 2018) and Petitbon (No. 61 in 2015) both were top-100 recruits in their respective high school classes by 247Sports.

In addition to the six new power five transfers this season, LB Milo Eifler will be eligible to play this season after sitting the 2018 season following his transfer from the University of Washington. Eifler was ranked No. 142 in the 2016 recruiting class. He played two seasons at Washington before spending 2018 at Illinois.
