CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois left-hander Andy Fisher singed a professional contract Sunday with the Cincinnati Reds. Fisher traveled to Arizona over the weekend, where he will begin his professional career.
Fisher was the most consistent pitcher for Illinois all season, leading the team in wins (7), innings (101.1) and strikeouts (95). He was in the weekend rotation all season and was the Friday night starter the final 12 weeks of the year.
Fisher had a long road to pro ball after transferring to Illinois from Eastern Illinois, where he was a reliever for two seasons. After sitting out the 2017 season due to transfer rules, Fisher went 13-4 with a 3.30 ERA while starting 30 of his 31 appearances for Illinois over the last two seasons.
