
Illinois Track & Field Begins Big Ten Championships Friday

Conference meet to take place May 10-12 at the University of Iowa.
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini track and field starts postseason competition this weekend with the 2019 Big Ten Outdoor Championships, hosted by the University of Iowa. Held at Cretzmeyer Track, the meet begins on Friday, May 10 and concludes on Sunday, May 12.

Know The Field
Two men's teams and one women's teams enter the conference meet ranked in the top 25 nationally by the USTFCCCA. No. 18 Iowa leads the men's field, with No. 24 Wisconsin entering the meet also in the top-25. On the women's side, the Hawkeyes also hold the highest ranking, with Iowa entering the meet at No. 15 in the nation. In 2018, Minnesota won the women's outdoor Big Ten title with 134 points. Ohio State took the men's championship with 109 points.

2019 Outdoor Season: Clocked a season-best time in the 1500m with a time of 3:44.33 at the Illini Twilight, which also earned him his second event title in the 1500m this season ... Recorded a PR in the 3000m Steeplechase at the War Eagle Invitational and placed second with a time of 9:00.45 ... Placed first in the 1500m at the Ole Miss Classic with a finish time of 3:49.47.

2019 Outdoor Season: Holds the fifth fastest 400m time in the Big Ten with her time of 54.03 recorded at the War Eagle Invitational ... Part of the event-winning 4x400m relay team at the Drake Relays.

Illini History At Big Ten Outdoor championships
With 35 Big Ten Outdoor Championships between men and women, the Illini track and field program has been a regular among the best in the conference throughout its history with 292 combined individual and relay titles.
Last Time Out
Fighting Illini Track & Field claimed two event tites in relays during the final day of competition at the Drake Relays on Saturday, with the men placing first in the 4x100m relay and the women capturing the event title in the 4x400m.
Women: The women's 4x400m team featuring junior Chisom Nwoko, senior Briana Driver, sophomore Amira Aduma and junior Felicia Phillips took home the event title in the 4x400m Invite. The team recorded a time of 3:47.85 to win the event title. The women's sprint medley team, comprised of Driver, Janile Rogers, Nwoko and Mikaela Lucki earned a second place finish at the Drake Relays, recording a time of 3:55.79. The Illini women finished tied for second place in the five-event Hy-Vee Cup Standings, finishing with 20 points along with Oklahoma State. It is the Illinois women's best finish in the Hy-Vee cup standings since its inception in 2013.
Men: The men's 4x100m team comprised of sophomore Jason Shannon, freshman Declan Rustay and seniors Joe Haight and Devin Quinn placed first in the 4x100m finals. The group clocked a 40.20 finish to win the title. The men's DMR also secured a top-five finish at the Drake Relays. The team of seniors Denis O'Callaghan, Haight, Konrad Eiring and sophomore Irwin Loud placed third, clocking a finish time of 9:51.19. The Illini placed third in the Hy-Vee Cup Standings with 19 points.
Individual: Junior Carolyn Nye set a PR in the Pole Vault, recording a mark of 3.90 meters to place seventh in the event. The mark ranks fifth all-time in Illinois program history. In the women's Long Jump, Janile Rogers recorded an all-conditions PR jump of 6.22 meters to place second. Briana Driver also earned a top-10 finish with her mark of 6.03 meters to place seventh.
13 Illini Performances Rank Among West Top-50
The Fighting Illini currently have 13 performances in the top-50 of qualifying for NCAA West Prelims in Sacramento Calif. Devin Quinn leads the way on the men's side, ranking third in the 100m and seventh in the 200m. Janile Rogers ranks 27th in the long jump to lead the Illini women.
Quinn Continues to Hold No. 1 B1G Time, Top-10 National Time in 100
Senior Devin Quinn's 10.06 finish in the 100m at the Ole Miss Classic is the No. 1 100m time in the Big Ten, and the fifth fastest time in the event nationally. The 10.06 finish time ranks second in Illinois program history in the 100m.
Up Next
Illini athletes that finish in the top-50 of the West qualifying rankings will advance to NCAA West Prelims in Sacramento, California. The preliminary meet for nationals will be held May 23-25.
