DURHAM, N.C. - The Illinois women's tennis team came up short to Arizona State, 4-0, in Saturday's NCAA First Round matchup, held at Ambler Tennis Stadium. The Illini finish the season with a record of 16-12. 

The Sun Devils took the early advantage with doubles victories on courts one and two. No. 4 John Baptiste-Hattingh secured a 6-1 win over Novak/Duong before No. 73 Alicea/Hampton won 6-3 over Belaya/Switkes. 

The Orange and Blue fought hard in singles play, forcing a third set in three of six matches. Arizona State was too much, however, as the Sun Devils picked up wins on courts two, four and five to claim the 4-0 victory. No. 114 Lauryn John-Baptiste was first to finish with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Mia Rabinowitz at the No. 2 position and Savannah Slaysman followed with a 7-6(4), 7-6(4) win over Emilee Duong. 

The match was clinched on court four, as ASU's Sammi Hamilton went 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 over senior Jaclyn Switkes.

• 2019 marked the 13^th appearance for the Fighting Illini in the NCAA Championships.
• The Illini now have a 4-13 record in NCAA Tournament play.
