GREENWOOD, Ind. - Fighting Illini track and field senior Joe Haight was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, Selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America), on Tuesday afternoon.

Haight was selected as one of 10 men's Academic All-District honorees representing District 5, which covers Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot.  First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America awards will be announced in June

On the track, Joe Haight picked up the second All-America honor of his career during the 2019 Indoor season with the men's distance medley relay, which earned Second-Team All-America honors at NCAA Indoor Championships in March. At the Alex Wilson Invitational on February 16, Haight and the men's DMR clocked a finish time of 9:29.19, the fastest distance medley relay finish in Illini program history. This outdoor season, Haight returns to NCAA Outdoor Championships as a qualifier with the men's 4x100m relay. Last season, Haight earned Second-Team All-America Honors with the 4x100m relay that placed 10th at 2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships.

In the classroom, Haight has excelled, receiving his degree in Engineering Physics earlier this month and graduating with a 3.95 cumulative GPA. Haight was named a 2019 recipient of the Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarship, which is a $7,500 scholarship given to a female and male student-athlete selected by the conference from each Big Ten institution that will be utilized at the student's graduate school.

To be eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-District and All-America award, student-athletes must maintain a 3.30 cumulative GPA, have participated in 50% of team competitions and have spent at least one full calendar year at the institution.

Haight and the men's 4x100m relay will compete at 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships, held at the University of Texas at Austin, June 5-8. The men's 4x100m semifinal is scheduled for June 5 at 6:32 p.m. CT.
