SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Fighting Illini track & field senior Devin Quinn qualified for NCAA Championships in the 100m Dash for the second consecutive year on Friday night at NCAA West Prelims. Quinn finished second in his heat to qualify for nationals, clocking a quarterfinal time of 10.17 which was the fourth-fastest time in the field. NCAA Championships will be held at the University of Texas at Austin, June 5-8.
This is the second time Quinn has qualified for NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 100m in his career. Quinn was an Honorable-Mention in the 100m at 2018 Outdoor Championships. Quinn has now qualified for nationals in both the indoor and outdoor season in 2019. He earned Second-Team All-America honors in the 200m at NCAA Indoor Championships in March.
Quinn also moved on to the quarterfinal round in the 200m at West Prelims by way of his first-round finish Friday night. Quinn recorded a time of 20.59 in the 200m to advance to Saturday night's quarterfinal round. Quinn is looking to qualify for NCAA Championships in the 200m for the second-consecutive year as well. He achieved Second-Team All-America honors in the 200m at 2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Despite not qualifying for nationals in the 400m, senior Joe Haight made his last collegiate 400m race his best ever in Friday night's quarterfinal round. Haight clocked a personal-best finish time of 46.61 in the West Preliminary quarterfinal. He finished 18th in the field.
Freshman Bret Dannis also set a personal-best competing in the 110m Hurdles first round. Dannis recorded a time of 14.17 to set a new PR in the event.
The Illini will contest five events on the final day of West Prelims on Saturday. The top-12 times and marks in each event will qualify for NCAA Championships. Event times for Saturday and Illini results from Day 2 are below.
