FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – With a 24-shot improvement from the first round, the No. 19 Fighting Illini women's golf team moved up three spots on day three of the 2019 NCAA Women's Golf Championships at The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.

"We positioned ourselves better off the tee and, on the greens, today for the most part," said head coach Renee Slone. "There were still shots we left out there."

The Illini completed their first round with a score 28-over par on Friday morning following a suspension of second-round play on Saturday due to thunderstorms. The Orange and Blue shot 4-over par as a team in the second round of play. They also have totaled 26 birdies over the two rounds with 17 coming from today's round.

Both No. 3 Duke and No. 1 USC shot up four spots in the leaderboard, sitting in first (+2) and second (+11), respectively. The Blue Devils and Trojans were the only teams to shoot under-par today. Duke had an impressive 11-under par, while USC were 3-under par. The No. 4 Texas Longhorns are close behind with 12-over par, while host No. 7 Arkansas and reigning NCAA champions, No. 8 Arizona, are tied for fourth with 14-over par.

Individually, only five players have a two-round total under-par. Florida's Sierra Brooks moved up 12 spots to gain the top spot with 142 (-4), while Maria Fassi of Arkansas and Bianca Pagdanganan of Arizona are tied for second with 143 (-3). Rounding out the top five are Purdue's Inez Wanamarta in fourth with 144 (-2) and Duke's Ana Blec in fifth with 145 (-1).

Veteran and lone senior Bing Singhsumalee still leads the way for the Illini with a two-round total of 153 (+7). She currently is tied for 42nd overall. Junior Tristyn Nowlin improved 15 spots after shooting 74 (+1) today. Her 36-hole total of 154 (+8) ties her for 52nd place. Freshman Kornkamol Sukaree remains steady for the Illini with a 155 (+9).

Freshman duo Crystal Wang and Katie Hallinan made tremendous improvements during the second round. Wang moved up 40 spots after shooting an impressive 1-under par 72. The Diamond Bar, Calif. native posted six birdies, including three in a row on holes 13-15. Her 156 (+10) ties for 66th overall. Hallinan improved her single round total by 16 strokes. Her 1-over par 74 matched junior Tristyn Nowlin. The Loveland, Ohio native posted five birdies and is tied for 114th overall with a two-round total of 164 (+18).

As announced by the NCAA yesterday, the stroke-play portion of the tournament will be shortened from 72 holes to 54 holes because of Saturday's weather delays. After tomorrow's action, the field will be cut to the top eight teams which advance to the match play quarterfinals on Tuesday. The individual medalist will be determined following the final round of stroke play.

The Orange and Blue are nine strokes behind Big Ten opponent No. 16 Northwestern, who holds the final spot going into match play. Northwestern has a two-round total of 607 (+23).

"The team had good energy after the long delay yesterday and we are looking forward to a great day tomorrow," noted Slone.

For the final round of stroke play, Illinois will be paired with a couple of teams from the Sunshine State – No. 9 Florida State and No. 10 Florida. The Orange and Blue will tee off at 8:06 a.m. CT in the order of Hallinan, Wang, Sukaree, Nowlin, and Singhsumalee.
