MAINEVILLE, Ohio – The second round of play at the 2019 Big Ten Golf Championships was suspended for unplayable course conditions on Saturday morning after a 3.5-hour weather delay before play. Illinois is currently 3-over par as a team and leads the field overall and in birdies (14) after the first round.
Play will resume tomorrow at 7Â a.m. CT and the event will be reverted to a 36-hole tournament format. The Illini are slated to tee off at 8:48Â a.m. CT and are paired with Ohio State and Indiana. The Orange and Blue will tee off in the order of Morallos, Hallinan, Wang, Singhsumalee, Nowlin, and Sukaree.Â
The 2019 Big Ten Championships are being held at TPC River's Bend in Maineville, Ohio. The Illini are among 13 other teams taking on the Par 72, 6,357-yard course. After the first round, the Orange and Blue are atop of the leaderboard with 291 (+3), while Ohio State and Indiana are three shots behind in second-place with 294 (+6). Rounding out the top four are No. 18 Michigan State and No. 33 Purdue, both recording 297 (+9).
Individually, four out of the six representing the Illini finished in the top 15 after the first round. Freshman Kornkamol Sukaree was the low Illini for the first round, firing a 1-under par 71 to finish in a three-way tie for first. Leading the field with five birdies, Tristyn Nowlin tied for fourth overall with an even par-72. Senior Bing Singhsumalee and freshman Crystal Wang are both tied for 14th with 74 (+2). Singhsumalee posted four birdies, including three on the back nine holes.
