CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Seven Illinois men's track & field athletes won individual event titles, and the Illini won both the 4x100 and 4x400m relay to take nine event titles at the Illini Twilight Saturday at Illinois Track Stadium. Seniors Devin Quinn and Joe Haight earned first place finishes in the 100m and 200m respectively on their senior day. Illinois track & field honored 12 seniors for their dedication to the program prior to the start of running events at today's meet.Â
"It was a pretty amazing day for our program," said head coach Mike Turk. "Being the last competition here at home until the new facility (Demirjian Park) is done in 2021, we wanted to show our best and it turned into a really special meet."Â
On senior day, Devin Quinn recorded a finish time of 10.38 to win his second 100m title of the season. Going into Saturday, Quinn held the fastest 100m time in the Big Ten and the second fastest nationally with his 10.06 finish time he recorded at the Ole Miss classic on March 31.Â
In the 200m, Haight recorded his best time of the season in the event on his senior day. Haight recorded a 21.16 to place first in the 200m at the Illini Twilight.Â
Individually, Illini athletes brought home titles in five running events, including titles in both the 110m and 400m Hurdles. In the 110m Hurdles, freshman Bret Dannis took home the event title for the second consecutive week with his 14.44 finish time. Freshman Jaden Jackson placed first in the 400m Hurdles for the second time this season, clocking a 53.82 finish.Â
The Illini saw a season-best performance and an event winning time in the 1500m from junior Jesse Reiser. Reiser clocked a season-best time of 3:44.33 to win his second 1500m event title of the season. Illini senior Denis O'Callaghan placed second in the event, recording a new 1500m PR with a time of 3:45.52.Â
In field events, Illinois had event champions in the Pole Vault and the High Jump. Redshirt junior Jacob LaRocca placed first in the pole vault, setting a season-best mark of 5.10 meters. In the High Jump, junior Noah Adams took home his second High Jump event title of the season, recording the top jump of 2.05 meters to win the event.Â
The Orange and Blue also won both the 4x100 and 4x400m relays. The sprint relay group of sophomore Jason Shannon, Haight, Dannis and junior Josh Eiker timed a finish of 40.34 to win the 4x100m. The Illini closed out the meet with a first-place finish in the 4x400m, with the relay comprised of Jackson, junior Doug Wilson, freshman Phillip Hall and Haight clocking a 3:16.55 finish. Â
"We're making progress," Turk said. "The difference between where we are now compared to a year ago is very encouraging. The bar is being set higher by the athletes and they are coming together in support of each other. That's the way it should be."
Up next, the Illini will compete at the two-day War Eagle Invitational hosted by Auburn on Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20. Competition will begin at 2 p.m. CT on Friday and at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday. Â Â
