COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Fighting Illini made quick work of Maryland on Sunday, as the team cruised to a 4-0 sweep to mark Illinois' eighth-straight win over the Terrapins. The Orange and Blue improve to 8-9 overall this season and 3-2 in conference play.Â
Illinois started strong in doubles play with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. The pair of Emilee Duong and Daniela Pedraza Novak claimed a 6-2 victory over Sullivan/Gevel to get things started before Asuka Kawai and Mia Rabinowitz clinched the early one-point advantage with a 6-1 win over Usui/Yemelyanenka. The Illini have now taken the doubles point in 11 matches this season.Â
No. 54 Asuka Kawai continued her stellar play this season with her third-straight singles victory, as the sophomore claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win over Millie Stretton on court one. Senior Jaclyn Switkes wrapped up a quick 6-0, 6-2 straight-set win on court three and sophomore Sasha Belaya clinched the Illini victory, claiming a 6-1, 6-3 win over Anastasiia Gevel on court four.Â
Up next, the Illini will return to Atkins Tennis Center to host both Michigan State (April 6) and Michigan (April 7).
