JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – After two rounds of play at the Briar's Creek Invitational, the No. 19 Fighting Illini women's golf team sits in eighth place with a two-round total of 583 (+7). The Orange and Blue turned in scores of 285 (-3) and 298 (+10) from The Golf Club at Briar's Creek (Par-72, 6,101 yards).
The Orange and Blue were led by freshmen trio Crystal Wang, Katie Hallinan, and Kornkamol Sukaree. After a slow start, Wang remains steady in 20th place with two-round totals of 145 (+1). Hallinan and Sukaree are tied for 24th after posting identical rounds of 71 (-1) and 75 (+3). Sukaree was one of five competitors to post an eagle during the tournament.
Sophomore Ali Morallos is tied for 34th after posting a 71 (-1) in the first round to finish at 148 (+4) for the day. Rounding out the fivesome is senior Bing Singhsumalee who is tied for 54th with a 150 (+6).
Atop of the leaderboard are two Big Ten opponents – reigning Big Ten Champions, Michigan State, lead the way with 5-under par, followed by Indiana (-2). Campbell sits in third with an even-par, while Old Dominion (+4) and host College of Charleston (+5) round out the top five.
The final round of the Briar's Creek Invitational will now have an 8 a.m. CT/9 a.m. ET shotgun start on Tuesday morning. The Illini lineup will tee off on holes No. 7-9 in the order of Wang, Hallinan, Sukaree, Singhsumalee, and Morallos.
