CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - After a 12-day break, the Illinois softball team returns to action this weekend as the Illini travel to Los Angeles, Calif., for their final nonconference tournament of the season at the LMU Tournament, hosted by Loyola Marymount on March 15-17 at Smith Field.

The Illini open the tournament on Friday, taking on UC Santa Barbara at 12:15 p.m. CT and Cal Poly at 2:30 p.m. CT. On Saturday, UI faces off against No. 2/2/3 Oklahoma at 11 a.m. CT, before host Loyola Marymount at 1:30 p.m. CT. The Illini then finish up the weekend with a second meeting against CPU on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. CT.Ā

ILLINI NOTES

  • The 2019 season marks the 20th season for the Illinois softball program, with the Illini owning a 58.5 winning percentage as a program and earned their landmark 600th win in the first game of the 2019 season - a 7-4 win over No. 22 Oklahoma State - and own a 611-433-2 overall record, as well as a 195-170 mark in Big Ten Conference action.
  • The Illini posted a 2-1 record at a cold OSU/Tulsa Invitational on March 1-2 as weather forced the final two games of the weekend to be cancelled. UI opened the tournament with a pair of victories on Friday, posting a 10-9 come-from-behind, eight-inning, walk-off win over Northern Iowa, before defeating host Tulsa, 6-4, in the day's second game. The Illini then dropped a 5-2 contest to Seattle on Saturday to conclude play on the weekend.Ā

In the tournament-opening win over UNI, Edwards threw two solid innings of relief, giving up just one unearned run on two hits. She then earned her first save of the season in a two-hit, two-thirds inning outing in a win over Tulsa.
