Freshmen duo Sukaree and Wang in Top-30 Following Round One at UCF Challenge

ORLANDO, Fla. – After one round of play at the UCF Challenge, the No. 14 Illinois women's golf team currently sits in 13th with a 289 (+1). Freshman duo Kornkamol Sukaree and Crystal Wang lead the way, tied for 24th after posting a 71 (-1).
"We are excited for rounds two and three and capitalizing on the opportunities this golf course presents," said head coach Renee Slone. "There were a number of positives today, but we left a lot of shots out there. We are looking forward to putting into action what was learned and gained from today."
Competing in the team lineup for the first time in her collegiate career, freshman Katie Hallinan sits tied in 37th and tied second-overall in total pars with 16. Rounding out the Illini fivesome are returners Bing Singhsumalee and Ali Morallos, who are both tied for 73rd with a 75 (+3).
As an individual, freshman Lauren Nay is 96th with a 79 (+7).
College of Charleston is in the lead with a 9-under par 279, followed by 2018 competitors No. 27 Miami (FL) and No. 9 Kent State. in second and third place, respectively. No. 42 Kennesaw State, No. 3 Vanderbilt, and host UCF are close behind, sitting in fourth through sixth.
The second round is slated for a 7:45 a.m. CT/8:45 a.m. ET start Monday morning with the final round of play set for Tuesday.
"As we know, the season is a marathon and not a sprint," noted Slone. "There is a lot of golf to be played and today will be a beneficial in our journey to where we want to be in April and May."
