PEORIA, Ariz. – After the first two rounds of play at the Westbrook Invitational, the No. 18 Fighting Illini women's golf team sits in eighth place with a two-round total of 575 (-1). The Orange and Blue turned in scores of 287 (-1) and 288 (E) from the Westbrook Village Golf Club Vistas Course (Par 72, 6,252 yards) in Peoria, Arizona.
Sophomore Ali Morallos and freshmen duo Crystal Wang and Kornkamol Sukaree led the way for the Illini, as the three golfers sit in a tie for 23rd place with two-round totals of 144 (E). All three posted identical rounds with 71 (-1) and 73 (+1).
Senior Bing Singhsumalee is tied for 30th after posting a 71 (-1) in the second round to finish at 145 (+1) for the day. Rounding out the fivesome is freshman Katie Hallinan, who is tied for 39th with a 146 (+2). After some bogeys in the first round, Hallinan finished up the day strong with a 71 (-1) in the second round.
Playing as an individual, freshman Lauren Nay recovered from a slow start in round one to finish the second round with an even-par 72. She currently sits in 86th overall.
Nebraska leads the way at 13-under par, followed by No. 47 Mississippi State (-6), and No. 24 Oklahoma (-5). There was a three-way tie at fourth with Michigan, No. 27 Oregon State, and Denver at 3-under par. Notre Dame rounds out the top seven with a day one total of 574 (-2).
The final round of the Westbrook Invitational will begin Monday morning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. MT/9:30 a.m. CT. The Illini lineup will tee off on holes No. 7-9 in the order of Sukaree, Wang, Morallos, Singhsumalee, and Hallinan. Competing as an individual, Nay will start on hole No. 18.
