LAS VEGAS - Four Illini gymnasts competed in the first night of the 2019 Winter Cup Challenge on Saturday night at the South Point Hotel. Senior Alex Diab registered the second-best still rings score of the night (14.550), while fellow-senior Johnny Jacobson led the Illini in all-around with a 79.500, good for 14th overall.
Freshman Michael Fletcher finished in the top ten on both pommel horse and vault, as the New Jersey, native posted scores of 13.500 and 14.450, respectively. The highlight of the night for Sebastian Quiana came on floor, as the junior put together a 13.750 to place seventh on the event.
Day two of competition will take place on Sunday at 9:15 p.m. CT. Individual event champions will be determined via a combined two-day score.
