Illini Finish Third at Medinah

MEDINAH, Ill. – The No. 19 Illinois Women's Golf team finished the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah in third place after carding a three-round score of 860 (-4). Sophomore Kornkamol Sukaree led the way for Illinois at 212 (-4), tied for eighth individually.

Senior Tristyn Nowlin's 70 (-2) was the best third-round score for the Orange and Blue on Tuesday, followed by junior Ali Morallos' 71 (-1).

"A huge thank you to the membership of Medinah Country Club for supporting the Illini Women's Invitational," head coach Renee Slone said. "We appreciate the efforts of the Medinah staff for providing another outstanding experience for the teams.
It was another highly competitive tournament this year with a single stroke separating first and second."

Nowlin tied for 13th at 214 (-2), and Morallos' 218 (+2) tied for 24th. Sophomore Crystal Wang tied for 28th at 219 (+3). Freshman Siyan Chen tied for 62nd at 227 (+11). Competing as individuals, sophomore Katie Hallinan tied for 56th at 225 (+9), and Reena Sulkar finished 80th at 234 (+18).

"Our team hit some outstanding approach shots today and finished the round strong," Slone said. "We unfortunately were not able to capitalize on those opportunities early in the round. We are close to playing some very good golf. There are a couple areas of focus in the coming weeks that can set us up for a successful end to the fall season.

The Illini were +6 on par 3 holes, tied with Oklahoma for the best score on those holes in the tournament. Nowlin was -1 on par 3's, second-best in the field. Wang's -5 on par 5 holes was tied for third-lowest among all players.

Illinois' 44 birdies as a team were third-most. Sukaree's 13 birdies were the second-highest total of any individual.

Kent State took the team title at 853 (-11), one ahead of Mississippi, which recorded a score of 275 (-13) Tuesday. Ole Miss' Kennedy Swann won the individual title at 207 (-9).
