Women's Tennis Set to Hit the Road at Baylor, ITA All-Americans

URBANA, Ill. – The University of Illinois women's tennis team continues its fall season sending six Fighting Illini to the Baylor Invitational in Waco, Texas, and three to the 2019 ITA Women's All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The Baylor Invitational begins Friday, Oct. 4, and lasts through the weekend, while the ITA Women's All-American Championships are set to begin Saturday, Oct. 5, and last through Sunday, Oct. 13.

BAYLOR INVITATIONAL

Senior Madeleine Gandawidjaja, junior Emilee Duong, sophomore Shivani Ingle, and freshmen Emily Casati, Josie Frazier and Ashley Yeah will take part in the three-day tournament, hosted by Baylor, for the Illini.

The invitational is slated to begin Friday, Oct. 4, and Saturday, Oct. 5, at 9 a.m. CT consisting of both singles and doubles competition. Singles play will feature main draws and a consolation bracket while doubles play will not have a consolation bracket.

Other teams that join Illinois and Baylor at the tournament include Arkansas, Auburn, Houston, Iowa State, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M and UTSA.

ITA WOMEN'S ALL-AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2019 ITA Women's All-American Championships will be a nine-day tournament that features both singles and doubles competition. Juniors Sasha Belaya, Asuka Kawai and Mia Rabinowitz will be the three student-athletes representing Illinois.

The pre-qualifiers will take place Saturday, Oct. 5 through Sunday, Oct. 6, which consist of three rounds of singles competition, including one round of consolation play. The qualifying rounds consist of the first round of singles matches and first and second rounds of doubles competition on Monday, Oct. 7, and Tuesday, Oct. 8 will feature the second/qualifying round of singles matches, including one round of consolation play, as well as the qualifying round of doubles competition. These rounds will determine advancement into the main draw.

The main draw will begin Wednesday, Oct. 9, with the first round of both singles and doubles play. The second round of singles and doubles competition will be played Thursday, Oct. 10, Friday, Oct. 11 will bring the third and quarterfinal rounds of singles play, along with the quarterfinals of doubles competition. Semifinals for both singles and doubles competition take place Saturday, Oct. 12, while Sunday, Oct. 13, will be the singles and doubles championship matches.  

Consolation matches will be played Thursday, Oct. 10 through Sunday, Oct. 13. Thursday will feature the first round of both singles and doubles competition. The second and quarterfinal rounds of singles play, and the quarterfinals of doubles play will be held that Friday. Saturday will include the semifinal rounds of singles and doubles matches, with Sunday holding the singles and doubles championship competition to conclude the bracket.

Singles matches will be played best two-of-three sets, with no additional scoring and a first match consolation bracket. Doubles competition will be played as an eight game pro-set until the semifinals of the main draw. The semifinals and finals round of the main draw will be played best two-of-three with a Match Tiebreak in place of the third set, with no-ad. scoring. 

Belaya and Rabinowitz begin singles competition Saturday, Oct. 5, in the prequalifying rounds, while Kawai will begin singles competition on Wednesday, Oct. 9, in the main draw. Rabinowitz and Kawai will pair up for the qualifying round of doubles play on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
