Singles Main Draw
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Illini senior Aleks Kovacevic reached the singles final of the Legacy National Bank NWA Tennis Series at the University of Arkansas' Billingsley Tennis Center this past week. The New York, New York, native dropped only two sets through the first four rounds of the ITF 25K event before falling to Roberto Cid Subervi of the Dominican Republic 6-2, 6-2 in the final.
"Another really strong week from Kova," head coach Brad Dancer said. "It's another example of never stop fighting for our whole team. Aleks was close to going out in the first round but stayed mentally tough and gave himself a shot at his first pro title. These types of events are great building blocks for Kova."
Kovacevic opened the singles main draw with a 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 win over American Felix Corwin and continued with identical 6-3, 6-4 victories over American Strong Kirchheimer and Czech Dominik Kellovsky to reach the semifinal. A 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 win over American Michael Redlicki put Kovacevic through to the singles final.
