Freshman Chen Leads First-Place Illini in First Round at Landfall

Round One Results

WILMINGTON, N.C - The No. 18 Illinois women's golf team finished the first round of the Landfall Tradition tied for first at the Country Club of Landfall Friday. Freshman Siyan Chen fired five birdies to finish the round at 69 (-3). 

Senior Tristyn Nowlin, junior Ali Morallos, and sophomore Crystal Wang each finished tied for 15th at 72 (E). The Illini are currently tied with Alabama at 285 (-3) for the tournament lead. Not far behind is Virginia at 286 (-2).

Chen and Nowlin tied for the second-most birdies by any player in the first round at five. Illinois was -5 on par-5 holes Friday, three strokes lower than any other team.

The Illini also moved up one spot to No. 18 in the latest WGCA rankings, as announced during the first round.

Play resumes Saturday morning with tee times ranging from 7:30 to 9:45 CT.
